You then have to put it back on the charger and wait for it to get powered up. I generally would for remotes with NiMH batteries that have around 24 hours of play time.
These batteries should be able to be charged simply by placing the remote in the charge station.
Also, you want to check to make sure that the plug on the charge station is long enough to reach where you need it to go.
Usually a cord length of around six feet should be sufficient to place the charger in a convenient spot.
Anything longer then this and you may end up tripping over the cord and trying to find a good place to put it. If it is shorter it may not be able to reach from the outlet to where you need it to go.

Generally speaking the batteries should have a life of a couple years, but if they are bad they can go quickly.
